Pancake Tuesday

Yesterday was Pancake Tuesday.  Not Fat Tuesday -- Pancake Tuesday.  Apparently, Pancake Tuesday is a last hurrah before Lent begins (in the manner of Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras).

I got offered pancakes numerous times by different people.  C, one of the women at the office, brought in pancakes for everyone for the tea break.  I commented that I wasn't aware that pancakes had that much sugar in them (in comparison to cookies, cakes or any of the other teatime snacks).  The response I was given was, "It depends on how much sugar you add.  My mommy always adds a lot."

Pancake Tuesday is a common enough tradition to transcend to EastEnders (a popular TV show/nighttime soap).  I was bullied into watching the show yesterday with one of my housemates (I am not a fan) and one of the families on the show had pancakes for dinner in honor of Pancake Tuesday.

I regret to report that I did not take full advantage of this tradition.  I only had one pancake.

I do think there is something about those chocolate chips.

Yes, yes, blog readers, I succumb to the known fact when pancakes/waffles are made at the Mahuron home choc chips are a must. Seems to me many have that as a given in their mind, makes me hungry for the food of discussion.

So very glad to see a post from the Irelander, thanks to our "point man" for his alert, where would we be without him?

love, Chef de la CChip

Don't forget the banana's too.

BTW - IHOP gave away a free stack of pancakes on Tuesday from like 7am - 10pm. They really must be "International" afterall...since they were celebrating too!

Hi Katie, we miss you!
I told Karsen about the pancake thing, okay, I was two days late, but that's what she had for lunch today "just like Katie."
And if Point Man is who I think it is, ha! I actually read my Anderson magazine because of him. ;)

katie--we had a king cake for fat tuesday at work, and i found baby jesus, which was very exciting. however, all day long when i was telling people it was fat tuesday, i would then let them know that people often eat pancakes to get rid of all the fat and sugar in the house. pancake tuesday would be so much more simple. less explaining. king cakes have much more sugar--too much. but fun times!
